The Vestry:

The "Rector, Wardens, and Vestry" is the governing body of the Church of the Resurrection, as regards property and budget--the "temporalities" of the parish. Also, if the parish does not have a rector, the Wardens and Vestry have the responsibility of calling a new priest to be rector of the parish.

There are two Wardens at Resurrection, whose terms are 2 years each, and there are nine Vestry members, whose terms are 3 years each.

The vestry and wardens meet usually on the third Tuesday of each month to conduct the business of the Church of the Resurrection. The rector is the chair for these meetings. The business consists of keeping track of the money and property of the church. They oversee that the income is spent properly (paying electric and telephone bills, the rectors' salary for example). They make sure the roof doesn't leak, the heat is working, and take care of the many other things which need attention. Finally, the vestry provides input to the rector on the spiritual life of the parish [when to have Sunday School, for a mundane example].

You as a member of the church may attend the meetings and bring up concerns, or you may pass them along to any warden or vestry person to take to the meeting.

Treasurer:

Our treasurer is elected annually by the vestry. While not a voting member of the vestry, our treasurer, Tom Starzyk, attends vestry meetings to keep the group in touch with the state of our finances.

Clerk of the Vestry

The norm is to have a vestry member be elected Clerk, and be responsible for taking and publishing minutes. For several years, Mary Belle Duvivier continued to serve as clerk of the vestry even when she was not a member.
