Announcements from Sept. 20, 2009

We welcome guests and newcomers to Resurrection. We hope you will join us, not only for this worship service, but also for the fellowship of coffee hour afterwards. Thank you to the Scirbona family for hosting coffee hour this morning.

Please help with 2 items to make this year’s Silent Auction a success – donations of items to be auctioned and invitations to all your relatives, friends and neighbors. If you frequent a restaurant or other place of business, consider asking the owner/manager if they would give a donation. If we all provided one quality item we would have a bounty of gifts for auction! So mark your calendars now  –  our Silent Auction and Dinner is on Fri., Oct. 16 from 7 to 11 p.m. Tickets are on sale during coffee hour. Make sure to invite all friends and family to this fun event with great food, fellowship and the opportunity to bid on/ win some great items for auction!

Last Friday the men’s group hosted a date night for couples in the parish where they showed the movie FIREPROOF. On Fri., Oct. 2, the men’s group will have a second showing at 6:30 P.M. and invite everyone to attend. (Just the movie this time.) Spread the word, invite your family, friends, and neighbors. See Kevin Sherman for more information.

The 34th Crop Walk for Hunger is Sun., Oct. 18 from 10 to 2 P.M. starting at the Jewish Community Center in Poughkeepsie. Resurrection’s representatives will begin their walk at 12 P.M. To donate or walk please call Sherry, 541-1371 or Marie, 221-9412.

Volunteers are needed to watch our little ones in the nursery – with enough volunteers you would only be scheduled one Sunday every 2 months. Please see Sherry Savoury during coffee hour.

Are you interested in learning how to naturally and effectively communicate your faith? Join us for the  course called “Becoming a Contagious Christian”. The course is designed to help everyday Christians – like you and me – to confidently and effectively spread their faith to people they know by using their own personal, God-given style. The first class will be held on Monday nights from 7 to 8:30 P.M. from  Oct. 5 through Nov. 9. Please speak to Patti Anderson to confirm your attendance so enough materials can be ordered this week.

One week opportunities: Please donate unused winter coats, sweaters, boots, blankets, and quilts. They will be part of a rummage sale where part of the proceeds will be used by Rebuilding Together Dutchess County. Items are needed by next Sun., Sept. 27 and may be dropped off in the undercroft. AND – the women of Trinity Fishkill are inviting the women of Resurrection to a baby shower on Sun., Sept. 27 at 12:30 P.M. Baby shower items are on the bulletin board downstairs and are for the benefit of the House of Hope, a domestic violence shelter in Fishkill and part of the House of Faith Ministry. If you are unable to attend and you would like to donate a gift, leave it in the undercroft (unwrapped) and it will be delivered.

Envelopes of Craft Fair raffle tickets are in the undercroft mailboxes. If every family can sell just three books, it gives us a wonderful start - so take them to neighbors, co-workers, and friends: there's a prize to appeal to everyone!

Kevin Sherman is conducting a CPR course on Sat., Oct. 10 from 1 to 4:30 P.M. Sign-up on the bulletin board.
