Announcements from Feb. 3, 2008

We welcome guests and newcomers to Resurrection. We hope you will join us, not only for this worship service, but also for the fellowship of coffee hour downstairs afterwards. Thank you to His Kidz Youth Group for providing coffee hour this morning.

You will notice a different prayer on the front cover that you may use when preparing yourself for worship. It is also in the Book of Common Prayer on page 833. There are other prayers in this section that you may find helpful in your preparation.

Thank you! To all the many parishioners who helped with last week’s annual meeting. The vestry and ministry reports were enlightening, the room set-up was beautiful, so many people brought food and the clean-up was fast and efficient. Thanks, also, to the teens that helped watch the younger children. We came together as a parish family should to review last year and look to the future. Thank you again to all.

Beginning  of Lent services and fellowship: Shrove Tues., Feb. 5, Evening Prayer and Pancake supper 6 P.M. We will begin with a short Evening Prayer service and then enjoy a pancake supper prepared by the men of the parish. Ash Wednesday services 7 A.M. & 7 P.M. Please join us for the important beginning to this Holy Season. And then join us on Fridays in Lent at 7 P.M. for Stations of the Cross as we walk with Christ the way of the cross.

Lent is a time for preparation, of repentance, and of learning. There are devotional booklets on the back table for your use during Lent. Two different books for individuals: Seeking to Serve - A Lenten Exploration of the Millennium Development Goals and 40 Days of Lent - Different Shoes a common path. We also have a family devotional guide: Creation to Salvation A Family Walk through Lent.  There are also Lenten Offering Folders available. Please feel free to take any of these resources home with you.

Fr. Mic will be holding First Communion classes during Lent. Please contact him if you are interested in having your child attend these classes. (Even if your child has been receiving Communion, they may attend.) Dates and times will be determined by Fr. Mic and participants.

Our Lenten Educational series will start on Wed., Feb. 13 at 6 P.M. starting with a Eucharist, simple supper, followed by the program. The program will also be held on Sunday mornings starting on Feb. 17 in lieu of the Adult Ed program at 8:30. The Wed. night program will include a video series for the children held in the undercroft. Please sign-up downstairs on the bulletin board for the Wed. program so we know how much food to provide and how many books to purchase.

For our Lenten Series this year we will be using the first part of the “Doing Life Together” video series. God never intended for you to do life alone but to do life together in community. This introductory group study, Beginning Life Together, gives you an overview of the five biblical purposes God intends for living together in community. This study will take you on a 6-week journey through these five purposes and give you a taste of the life God created you to live.

The Women's Prayer Group will not be meeting until after Easter. If you are interested in learning more  or would like to join this group, please speak to Marie Metzger.
